Make your mark

Officially opened in 2002, the course was immediately designated as Golf  Digest’s “Best New International Course”. In 2010 it held the prestigious title of European Golf Resort of the Year.

Described by many as Greg Norman’s masterpiece - the par 72 course sets an enthralling challenge no matter what your handicap. Norman was selected for

his incomparable design skill and his philosophy of “least disturbance” - routing courses to fit existing terrains. Norman’s layout follows a course designed by nature. 14 of Doonbeg’s greens and 12 of its fairways required no changes but simple mowing of the grass.

Variations in wind speed and direction ensure the course plays differently each and every time. The layout features a single loop of nine holes out and nine back which will challenge every facet of your game. From the 575 yard first hole, often described as the greatest opening hole in golf to the iconic 14th, every hole has it’s own distinctive character and offers its own enjoyment. Great friends are made on the golf course and great matches can be won and lost.

The challenge is fierce, the enjoyment is immense, the weather is ever changing but the feeling of satisfaction is always consistent. Every time you play you feel as if you have achieved something. There is a wonderful sense of accomplishment when you play a course as challenging as Doonbeg. It’s a funny thing that golfers of every possible handicap love playing the course. It offers something for everyone. Test yourself against one of the top 100 courses in the world. Make it your home course, thinking of it as yours. Are you up for the challenge?
